1. Are Dogs allowed at Gaviota State Park?

Dogs are allowed on leash in the campground, but not on the beach or on park trails. Dogs cannot be left unattended in the campground. At night they must be in a tent or RV.


2. When is the best time of year to view whales at Gaviota Beach?

Whales migrate south in mid-January and return north beginning in mid-March. The best time of year to see mother whales and their calves is from mid April to early May.


3. Are there lifeguards at Jalama Beach?

Yes, lifeguards are on duty during the summer months.


4. How far is it from Highway 1 to Jalama Beach?

The road from Highway 1 to Jalama Beach is 14.5 miles, but due to the many curves it takes about 25 minutes to drive.


5. Can campsites at Jalama Beach be reserved?

Yes, Jalama County Park has recently switched to a reservation system, making it much more convenient for campers to be sure of having a campsite when they arrive.

6. Are extra vehicles allowed at the campsites at Jalama Beach?

A maximum of one additional vehicle is permitted at each campsite. There is a $10 extra vehicle entry fee.


7. Is there cell phone reception at Jalama Beach?

According to previous campers, there is no cell phone reception. Nor is WiFi available.
