1. Can we set up a portable volleyball net on the beach?

Yes, portable volleyball nets or beach tennis courts are allowed. They must be at least 50 feet from The Strand and not block access to existing courts or for emergency services. They must be taken down at dusk.


2. Does Hermosa Beach have a beach summer camp for kids?

Yes, In the past Hermosa Beach's Community Resources Department has offered its popular Fitness by the Sea summer camp. Activities include surfing, soccer, dance, gymnastics, boogies boarding, baseball, swimming, and much, much more. Participants may check the schedule and choose which days they wish to attend. For ages 5 to 14.

For ages 5-13 they have offered Body Glove Beach Camp which provides personal instruction in beach and ocean safety, fitness, boogie boarding, paddle boarding and water games.

3. When is the annual Sand Snowman Contest?

December 9, 2017
The annual Sand Snowman Contest on Hermosa Beach is a fun twist to the traditional sand castle contest. Participants of all ages and abilities come to build their most creative snowmen out of sand. Check-in north of the pier is at 8:45 AM. Sculpting begins at 9:00 AM. In the past, prizes have been awarded for the HERMOSA BEACH FAVORITE, MOST UNIQUE, MOST TRADITIONAL, BEST DRESSED AND FUNNIEST. Judging is at 11:15 AM and awards are presented at 11:30 AM. For more information, contact the Community Resources Department at (310) 318-0280.


4. Is camping available at Hermosa Beach?

No camping is allowed at Hermosa Beach. The nearest camping is the RV Park at Dockweiler Beach. However, no tent camping is allowed there. The nearest good tent camping is probably 40 miles away at Malibu Creek State Park, 1925 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas. You will also find camping at Lake Castaic or Lake Piru, about 55 miles to the north.


5. Am I permitted to walk my motorized scooter along The Strand?

No, motorized vehicles are not allowed on The Strand, even if the motor is not in use.
