Hearst San Simeon State Park Camping

There are two campgrounds in the state park - San Simeon Creek Campground and Washburn Primitive Campground.

San Simeon Creek Vs. Washburn Primitive

San Simeon Creek Campground has coin operated showers, flush toilets, and is within easy walking distance of the beach. Washburn Primitive campsites are nearly a mile from the beach, have chemical toilets, and no showers.

San Simeon Creek tends to be noisier, especially with highway traffic nearby. It has more trees. Washburn Primitive is quieter, but has less shade. Located on a hill top, Washburn has nice views.

Campfire programs are presented on Friday and Saturday nights at the amphitheater next to the San Simeon Creek Campground. The programs usually begin at 8:15 PM and last about one hour.

A campfire program schedule is posted on the campground bulletin board. In the past programs have covered topics such as Chumash Indians, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and marine animals such as sea otters, elephant seals, and tide pool inhabitants.

Movie Night

Nature movies are shown on Sunday and Thursday evenings at 8:15 PM at the amphitheater. The movies usually run about one hour.
